1. What was Hubble’s involvement in space research?
Professor Hubble’s involvement in space research was fundamental in how we understand the universe today. He discovered that the Stars and Galaxies are constantly moving farther and farther away from each other. Along with this he came up with his own constant for the Universe.

2.What does his space telescope do?
Hubble’s telescope is used for imaging of various Galaxies and Start light years away from the Earth. It is generally used by NASA for various tasks.

3. Where is it?
The telescope orbits Earth and takes pictures from up there. It can do a full orbit of the Earth in about 90 minutes.

4. What was Hubble’s constant?
His constant was that the Stars and Galaxies are continuously moving farther and farther apart from each other, and as they do this, they gain speed.

Reflection on Map Reading

During the task today, I got to know my other team members really well. It helped me to understand what kind of workers they are and what they will do well in and what they might not to do so well in. Other than that, the task was generally a lot more interesting than a lot of the other things that we have done during Year 9, and especially during Social Studies classes. I also think that the task was good for everybody, because for the first time, we really had to work as a team on something that was do-able in a about 15 minutes.

In this lesson we organised our groups, along with our group contracts. The two boys that I am working with are Luke Ovelar and Jake Ferguson. From past experience, Luke isn’t the most keen of workers, and niether is Jake, but as I mentioned in my other Journal, I hope that I can get them to work to the best of their abilities. As for the actual project, we are required to create a Saftey Report on 10 different experiments. We will also need to write up the practicals in our notebooks. Unlike the last project, this is more individual, so I believe that this will benefit me and help me to do better in this project than the last.

In today’s lesson, we started the overview on our new topic for the next project, Chemical Reactions. I learnt alot from the lesson, and I now understand how to indentify compounds and do various other things which I couldn’t do before. For the next project, I hope it goes better than the last one because in the last project I carried the whole project. Even if I get members in my group who are unwilling to work, I still plan to try and make them work to their strengths.

Individual Task #3 for CST/IST 2

April 9, 2008

1. Define the term ‘moral integrity’
I define the term ‘moral integrity’ as the strict adherence of someone’s values.

2.) Describe why Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of exemplary moral integrity.
Maximillian Kolbe is considered to have exemplary moral integrity as he did exactly as Jesus taught. To think about others before yourself. Like Jesus, Kolbe sacrificed himself for a man wo had a wife and children.
3.) Outline Maximillians ethical actions/principles that he demonstrated in Auschwitz.
The ethical actions that Kolbe demonstrated were thos of sacrifice, and following the most important of the ten commandments, One love another, as I have loved you.

4.) Evaluate whether you think he made the right decision and provide research to support your answer. i.e. Catholic teachings.
I believe he did make the right decision, as he did what Jesus asks all of us to do, and more. Catholic Teachings that back this up include the Ten Commandments, the Gospel, and generally what is taught to us at a very young age, to care for other before ourselves. As mentioned before, Kolbe followed the most important Commandment, he also did as Jesus asked us to do, to forgive others and make sure we put other before ourselves.

1. Define the Term ‘digital media’
I define digital media as any media which is on a computer of some sort. For example, an online website is digital media, but a newspaper in hardcopy is not.

2. How has digital media evolved over the past 5-10 years?
Digital media has evolved a lot over the past decade. With the introduction of fast, broadband internet, the internet has flourished. It has also led way for wireless internet, making the digital media overtake the hardcopy media. The world of digital media is now endless because of the scope of places where people can now connect to the internet, and on top of that, most of it is free!

3. Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers have become so poular?
The reason why this is so popular is because it is something you can look at on the go, yet you don’t have to carry it around all the time like a newspaper. It also doesn’t waste paper and other natural resources.

1. Watch the following clip:

Scenario 1: You are on a train coming home from a day at the beach. The train stops at a station and a group of youths get on the train and start bashing an elderly ethnic man. You notice people getting off the train.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

Scenario 2: You get a message from a girl that you are interested asking you to come over her house. When you get there a number of her friends are present and they say they are bored. One of them promotes the idea of going for a walk and causing a riot. At first you tell them “No way”. However, the girl you like states that “she will like you more if you go”.

Discuss what you would do in this situation.

Scenario 1: In this scenario, I would call police, and then try and stop the violence. The reason for this is that it is not right in anyone’s books to attack a defensless man.

Scenario 2: In this scenario, I would refuse to go because anyone who wants to start a riot, isn’t interesting to me, and also starting a riot is just plain dumb.

Watch the following video:

1. What is a ‘conscience’??

A conscience is a part of someones mind, which tells them right from wrong depending on what they have experienced or been taught before.

Watch this clip.

Describe how a person’s conscience helps in making moral decisions. What is the connection between this and religion??

A person’s conscience helps in making moral decisions because moral decisions are all about what is right and what is wrong. The connection between this and religion is very strong, as religion is a big influence as what makes a person think something is right or wrong.

Journal #6 for CST/IST 2

1. Define the term ‘Moral Maturity’.

I define the term ‘Moral Maturity’ as something that someone achieves, so that when they make choices in life, they understand the needs of everyone around them, and make decisions in such a way that they benefit everyone, and not just themselves.

2. Read the following article.
http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/knife-arrest-cop-pelted/2008/03/24/1206206967590.html
Discuss the reasons why the 25 year old man mentioned would have a lack of ‘Moral Maturity’.

I believe he has a lack of moral maturity as he didn’t care for the officers safety. All he cared about was getting away. He also had no regard for public safety either.

3. Discuss the differences between ‘morality’ and ‘imorality’

Morality is something that someone has (a characteristic of sorts) which when they make decisions, is influenced by the needs of everyone around them. Immorality is the opposite in the sense they don’t care for others.

4. Watch the video on Governor Spitzer and discuss why his actions where ‘imoral’.

Spitzer’s actions are immoral as he was a complete hypocrite. He also affected many people who voted for him in confidence only to find he was a liar.

Journal #5 for CST/IST 2

1. Which countries have banned the Internet?

The countries which have banned the Internet are: Maldives, Tunisia, Belarus, Libya, Syria, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, Myanmar/Burma, Cuba, Turkmenistan, North Korea.

2. Describe what the following image is about.

Banned

I think the following image is about two separate things. The first one is that the country of China has now officially banned ‘YouTube’. The other thing is that the Dal Li Lama has spoken about how he believes the Internet, especially You-Tube, is very bad for the community and can be quite offensive.

3. How would you feel if the Australian government banned the Internet? Discuss how it would effect you.

If the Australian Government banned the Internet, I would feel outraged, and betrayed. The reason for this is that I think that I am being denied my right of free speech. It is generally unfair if the government decides to ban such a public medium, where people can provide their own insight on every possible aspect of life.

If this was to happen, it would affect me a lot as it would become a lot harder to actually do school work. It would take a much longer amount of time to complete tasks, especially projects like these or assignments.
