1.) Using the Internet research and find descriptions for the roles of the following newspaper personnel:

- Editor

The editor is the person who reviews the content that will be published in the final copy of a newspaper, magazine etc. This means, if they think something is too long or too short , for example, they will tell the person responsible to have it fixed for the publication.

- Reporter

This is the person who gets the information on various events, and then gives it to the various people who publish it. Unlike a Journalist, they tend not to get their own information and then write it themselves.

- Journalist

A Journalist is someone who would have their own column in a newspaper, or would write special articles, and get the information themselves.

- Designer

A designer is someone who decides the layout of the newspaper as a whole, and how it is presented on store shelves.

Baulkam Hills Stabbing Death

A few days ago, it is alleged that a high school boy stabbed his father to death, whilst seriously inguring his mother. The horriffic event occured in the morning, and the suburb has been shocked as many consider the area to be non-violent. New revelations have also appeared that the private school that the boy went to didn’t take action on the tell tale signs of bullying, and what probably led to the fatal stabbing.

1. Describe the Australian Governments ‘NetAlert’ program

This program is one which acts like a firewall of sorts on home computers. However it does not deter viruses, it deters websites deemed inappropriate from being viewed by the web browser or browsers that that specific computer uses. It is targeted and young families and is free.

2. Discuss the reasons for implementing this program

The reason that this program has been implemented is because there is an increasing amount of children who are being abused through the internet. To counter this, this program has been implemented.

1. Define the term ‘wired generation’

To me, the term wired generation refers to the current generation which is more technology based than any other before it.

2. Provide 5 examples of different social community sites

Facebook : www.facebook.com
My Space: www.myspace.com
Pageflakes: www.pageflakes.com
Bebo: www.bebo.com
Del.icio.us: http://del.ico.us

3. Choose one of the above and describe how it can be used and misused

The website I have chosen is My Space. My Space can be used for many things like talking to friends and showing your like and dislikes to the world. However, it can be misused in many ways such as people stealing your private information.

Evaluation

March 11, 2008

1. Would you make any changes to your project??

I wouldn’t make many changes to the project except I would finish it a few weeks earlier.

2.Favourite Project – Why??

My favourite project was Jordan’s, as it was really funny and I think it would be very effective.

3. How can you improve on your presentation skills for the next project??

I would make sure that the project was presented a bit better as I feel it wasn’t presented in the best possible way.

4. Who, in your opinion, had the best presentation skills??

I think that all the groups presented equally well, and I can’t pick just one group out of all of them.

Driving Question Answers

March 10, 2008

How well can you answer the Driving question?

Here is the question:

Discuss the ways in which the rights and freedoms of the Aboriginal peoples in Australia have changed from the Dreamtime to the present.

  1. Why have certain words been placed in a bold font?
Because they are main points and words within the driving question.

  2. What is the object of the sentence?
The object of the sentence is to evoke thought about how Aboriginal Culture has changed over time.

  3. What is the Subject of the sentence?
The subject is in which ways have the Aboriginal rights changed over time.

  4. What ‘time frame’ has been identified?
The time frame is between the Dremtime and the present.

  5. What is a right?
A right is something that a person is entitled to. An example is the right to life

  6. What are ‘freedoms’?
Freedoms are things which you are able to do freely. Example being the freedom to speak what you think.

  7. Identify the ‘verbs’ in the question. What is the main verb? (The one that asks you to do something). What does it mean for you when you attempt to answer the question?
The verbs in the sentence are: Discuss, and Changed. The main verb is Discuss, and when answering a question it makes me answer the question in a way that is a bit more conversational.I also try to address things in a way in which people who are affected will understand what I am saying.

  8. What things do you think you could and should include in your answer? List them below.
I think that the overall answer to the question should include how the Aboriginals have become a minority to most of Australian Societey. We must also include how the Aboriginal culture, overall, has been completley changed in such a way that it is unrecognisable when compared to past. We must also recognise that Australia has now said ‘Sorry’ as a whole and this means that we are all beginning to see what we have done.

Science Journal #2

March 5, 2008

So far, within the group, I’m doing all the work. Andrew orignally said he had done research, but that hasn’t appeared, and James’ work was a bit too late as I was done by the time he gave it to me. So overall, my science PBL project has been really bad. Hopefully next project this can be changed.

Meeting Minutes #3 Social Studies

Meeting Minutes 25/2/08

All Members

Agenda

Progress

Overall, it seems as though most members of the group are having trouble. So I went over what must be done to finish the work, especially the individual assessment task regarding ‘Appreciating Poetry’. However this did end up trailing off into disruptions. This really led to us having no meeting at all. This seems to be really a problem and I’m getting real angry.
