Evaluate your contribution to the group and your work ethic

Overall, I feel as though me and Anthony are the only people in the group who pull their weight. So what is meant to be a 5 group split task, is becoming more of a 2 split.  think that my work ethic is very good but is suffering a bit too much from the overworking because of members not pulling weight.

What did you find your strengths and weaknesses are?

I found that my strengths lie in the ability to lead the group and pull more than my weight. My weakness is probably the fact that I can no longer stand the excuses that are coming out of some group members and my patience.

Which part of the exposition are you responsible for?

The part of the exposition that I am doing is a brief part of research and mainly alot of the writing and how we will word it.

What supplementary material are you using to backup you thesis point?

I will be using Mr. Rudd’s apology speech, and other videos and pictures. I will also be using the various statistic reports released by the Australian Bureau of statistics as back-up of my points on the declining health and education of Aboriginal Australians.

What is an Exposition?

An exposition is when you list arguments for one side of a debate, argument etc. It is used to prove a point or used as a preamble.

What is a Thesis Point?

A Thesis Point is the centre of your exposition and is the drive of your whole argument.

How is an exposition text type structured?

An exposition is structured so that you start with an introduction so that you can explain why you are arguing on your side of the point. You then list points followed by explanations for each paragraph. At the end you follow up with a recap and a reinforcment of your side and your thesis point.

Are you satisfied with your groups progress so far?

Overall I am very pleased with the progress. The only thing that is annoying me is that sometimes members within the group just muck around instead of actually getting to work.

Who is not pulling their weight?

The two people who arn’t really pulling their weight would be Mark and Matthew. I have asked them on several occasions to bring work to scchool, but I always get exuces about howw they forgot their USb, or they sent it to my e-mail. And when I check it proves they arn’t doing the work. However as far as I know all four other members use the instant messenger service found on PM Online whilst in classes. This is really bad….. And trying to police it is very hard.

Agenda

Check up of work completion

In this part of the meeting we checked on how we were all getting along with our research. Luckily everyone had finished what was asked of them. We collaborated the information and worked on it a bit. It ended up being really good aswell and now I think we can finish our draft and things in time.

Group Meeting for 6/2/08

All Members Present

Agenda: Overview of roles and Rules

In this part of our meeting, we went over all of the Group roles so that everyone understood what their role meant. We also went over rules. Everyone seems to have gotten to grips with what to do but they still needed some explaning of the roles, which Mr Stephens helped with.

Overview of Task

In this part of the meeting we decided who was doing what. So far we’ve organized that we will work in small groups of two and research faster, then come together and polish each others work. I think this works great and so does everyone else.

So far in Science, we have learnt what our task is, to make the first 20 elements of the Periodic Table easier to learn for High School students and also alot more intersting. This is preety daunting as it isn’t easy to think of something that is interesting to students, yet still informative. I hope we can come up with something soon as so far we havn’t.

1. Select ONE person who you consider to have inspired you and provide a short background of this person.

The person that I have selected is Al Gore. Al Gore was the vice president of America and worked toward making the world a cleaner place and helping raise awareness of Global Warming. He now has set-up many funds and works around the world to make sure people realize what we are doing to the Earth.

2. Discuss briefly why you consider them to be inspiring.

I consider him inspiring as he has stood out from the crowd and made sure people realize that what we are doing to the Earth must be stopped.

3. Import atleast ONE picture and ONE hyperlink that can add to the information you have provided about your inspiring person or inspiring people in general.

Why is it important to have regular group meetings?

It is important to have regular meetings as wothout them people will become unorganized and our group wouldn’t have a clue what to do.

Outline two other tools or strategies that can be used to assist group work

One way to help the group would be to share all of what we learn with each other, so if I learn something about how to use a certain tool, I would tell the group aswell so we can all use it. Another thing our group does is that we try and split the work in to smaller groups to get work done faster. For example, two people will study nominees for the Marist of the Year Award, whilst the other two start doing the criteria whilst I post minutes etc. Then we get together and finesse the work we have done.

List Three things which you may face working in your group

One thing that might happen is someone might decide not to bring in homework that they are given putting more weight on the whole team. Another thing we may encounter is people being away meaning we have to put more effort in to make sure we don’t fall behind. we also might have to work after school to get some work done meaning some members may not be able to attend due to other commitments.

What significant moment in Indigenous History occurs this week?

The Prime Minister of Australia; Kevin Rudd, will apologise to the indeginous people of Australia for the wrongs previous governments have commited.

kevin-rudd.jpg

How may you use this as Supplementary Material?

His speech could be used as supplementary material as it backs up the fact that now everyone accepts the Aboriginals were mistreated in the past and that this must be made right.

What is your aim for this lesson?

My aim for this lesson is to make sure that my Journals (This wordpress Category) is set-up and so that I can get into the nitty gritty stuff of the content for our preamble.
